Perks of Government Jobs that Makes it Desirable
In today's world, many people have the sole aim of landing a government job. Our generation has been brainwashed since childhood by our parents, relatives, and society that government jobs are the ultimate success a person can have in his/her life.
People judge those as losers who are working in the private sector without even knowing their designation or average pay scale.
The craze of landing a government job is prevalent nowadays and whenever somebody asks you about their job, their first question is always- "Private or Government? People nod in disappointment if you say you're working in the private sector. Whereas 20-30 years ago the situation was the complete opposite, people flocked to work at MNCs, everyone wanted to work for a large private conglomerate, because of this many IT, pharma and retail companies boomed in the market, and are still enjoying success today.
The craze behind landing a government job stems from the mindset that government jobs are permanent and you'll have job security, you can't be fired even if you're bad at the job. Listed below are some factors that highlight why the craze for government jobs is at an all-time high right now:
Job Security:
During the coronavirus lock down many people working in the private sector got laid off or got a deduction in their salaries, people tend to believe that if they land a government job they'll have job security for life and they can never be fired, this is not entirely true. A person with a government job can lose his/her job if they're convicted of a criminal offense or if they're absent from duty for more than 5 years.
Regular increments:
Another appealing thing about government jobs is the regular increments it provides to the employee. Employees get their pay scale upgraded even if their performance is not up to the mark.
Minimal stress:
A common misconception about government jobs is that they aren't demanding and the employees have no targets to achieve. This was the case in the past but govt. jobs are not so fancy and laid back anymore
More holidays:
Government jobs employees enjoy more holidays than their private counterparts. Every festival is a holiday in the government sector but that's not the case in the private sector.
Working Hours:
Government job employees can choose whether they want to work in fixed working hours or shift-based hours whereas private-sector employees have to work at the company's convenience.
Perks and Benefits:
Government job employees enjoy a lot more benefits and perks than private employees, Leave Travel Concession(LTC), reimbursement, and insurance after retirement are some of the many benefits government job employees enjoy.
Conclusion
There are pros and cons in both the government and private sectors. The government sector outclasses the private sector because of its perks and benefits. The government sector offers job security, regular increments, and a ton of perks and benefits but in the long run private sector can give you a higher paying job than the government sector
